   Bankya is a well-known health resort. It is situated in the green foothills of the Lyulin Mountain at an altitude of 630-640 m., 17 km away from the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

   The resort climate is temperate continental. The average annual temperature is 9.4oC (average January temperature is minimum 2oC, average July temperature 19.6oC. The summer is fresh, the autumn warm and sunny and the winter moderately cold. This climatic conditions are favourable both for year-round spa treatment, as well as for general prophylactics and the hardening of organism.

   THE MINERAL WATERS OF BANKYA The Mineral waters of Bankya are slightly mineralized, mild, hypothermal, alkaline, colorless, clear, palatable and tasty with a total flow of 24l/sec. Their temperature is 36,5 – 37C. The waters contain hydrocarbonates and sulphates of sodium, as well as silicon, and fluorine.

During the archeological excavations in the region of Bankya many years ago remains of churches, ceramics and coins dating from the Roman times have been found. Very interesting are the church “St. St. Kiriak and Julita” and the “St. Petka” Monastery situated in the place of Klisura. In the region of Bankya there are lots of eco tracks. 20 km from the town is situated the Divotinski Monastery.
