Primorsko Municipality occupies the southeastern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is a resort and tourism center. Primorsko town and Kiten village have been declared seaside climatic resorts of national importance and are among the most preferred destinations in the summer season. The climate is influences by the continent, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The average altitude above sea level is 16 meters. The summer is sunny and warm with refreshing winds in daytime and relatively high night temperatures. The average temperature in July is 23 - 24ϗ. The maximum temperature rarely reaches over 32 - 33ϗ. The relief is low in the coastal zone and mountainous in the Strandzha Mountain zone. The urban areas occupy 5,781,762 sq. m. There is a real construction "boom" in all villages in the Municipality. Water supply in Primorsko Municipality is provided form Yasna Polyana and Novo Panicharevo dam lakes. The water supply network in Primorsko town and Kiten village is modern one. A water treatment plant of mechanical-biological type has been constructed. The power supply is ensured by two sub-stations of capacity 400 kV and 120 kV respectively. The backbone of the communications infrastructure in the Municipality is the 5 post offices. Digital telephone exchanges are in operation. The total number of telephone subscriber lines is 2,308. There is coverage by the three cell phone operators. The municipal roads network is of 51 km length.

Economy and business
Tourism and the services to it are the most dynamically developing sector in the municipal economy. Strong investment interest in the construction industry is shown and construction is developing. Some of the more significant economic actors are: Municipal production, repair and storage facility; Targovia EOOD - trade, Primorsko Energy OOD; DKC EOOD; Sportni Imoti Primorsko AD - sports facilities; Robinson Beach AD. Targosvki Sistemi - Primorsko AD - trade systems; Strandzhanski Dab OOD; Primorsko MD AD; Gerastroy -Primorsko AD; Strandzha 2004 AD; Yani 2004 AD. The forests fund comprises 68% of the total area. The beach lines are of total area 1.29 sq. km, including protected areas, which are 522,700 sq. m. Farming land is 86,834,687 sq. m.

Natural sights
The vegetation has strongly manifested Mediterranean characteristics. Typical for the region are dense forests. Representatives of the fauna are the following wild animals: wolf, marine otter, wild category, hedgehog, hamster, fox, polecat, jackal, badger; non-harmful game: wild boar, deer, hare, and roe. Many birds may be watches in the region, and in the swamps there are white heron and egret, terns, and others. There are also numerous representatives of the sea fauna, such as dolphin and monk seal. There is wide variety of sea and fresh water fish species. The Ropotamo and Vodni Lilii reserves, the protected areas Arkoutino marsh, Stamopolou marsh, Perla sand dunes, the ancient road of birds Via Pontica are typical for the region of Primorsko Municipality and shows that it is environmentally clean. The Strandzha eco-region and the whole of the Southern Black Sea coast have a wealth of biodiversity thus offering a unique combination of options for seaside tourism and all other types of alternative tourism: rural, hunting, bird-watching/ornithological, and cultural-historical. Most strongly felt is the presence of the Bulgarian - Swiss Program for Protection of Biodiversity, under which Strandzha is a priority region. The connection to the part of Strandzha, which is on the territory of Turkey, offers an opportunity for implementation of trans-border cooperation projects, such as the project for Establishing a Trans-border park in Strandzha Mountain. The protected areas are extremely attractive to visitors in all seasons. The unique plant and animal species are subject of interest not only on the part of specialists and researchers, but also of ordinary tourists. The clean environment is the primary component of the tourist product, which is taken into account by tourists.

Monuments of culture
The beautiful surroundings crossed by ancient roads and studded with remains of fortresses and monasteries offer options for development of different types of tourism. The anthropogenic tourism resources may be used all year round for development of domestic and international tourism. Some of the resources available are the prehistoric settlement mounds, Thracian tombs, archeological finds dating back to Roman and Byzantine times. Some of the more significant monuments of culture are the St. Paraskeva medieval church in the bay; the Thracian sanctuary in Beglik Tash locality with 4 temples, the 12 dolmens discovered by now and over 10 mound necropolises. These sites give grounds to conclude that these places used to enjoy the special status of a sacred place of the Thracians - the Sacred Mountain. The following cultural institutions operate in Primorsko Municipality: 7 "chitalishte" (arts, culture and literature center) and 5 libraries with 28,350 books. In Yasna Polyana village there is a museum exhibition dedicated to the Tolstoyist colony established in 1906 and the concepts of Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy. Other monuments of history and culture: megalith monuments; remains from the ancient fortresses of Azene (Ranouli) and Ourdovisa; remains of a pre-Christianity chapel - St. Petka in the Saint Paraskeva bay; St. Cyril and Methodius church in Primorsko town; St. Virgin Mary church in Yasna Polyana village; St. Holy Trinity in Novo Panicharevo village; St. Constantine and Elena chapel in Primorsko town and others. An international symposium on sculpture in wood is held regularly in Primorsko, and an international symposium on plastic and visual arts in held in Yasna Polyana village; International underwater fishing tournament for the Solver Amphora cup; International children's folklore festival in Primorsko town and Kiten village.

Environmental protection and tourism The environment is not under threat of industrial pollution. Another danger for the environment is the increasing volume of solid household waste and construction debris. The Municipality has introduced a new method of solid waste collection and disposal, as well as its processing, and new places for waste landfills are being selected. There is a pressing need of optimization of hunting and fishing, as well as of the tree and plant species in the Municipality. Tourism as a sector ensures means of livelihood for almost 69 % of the working population of the Municipality. The tourist companies and the companies for tourist services are mostly private ones. They have established their local tourist organization - a Tourism Board. The resort settlements of Primorsko and Kiten offer 70,330 beds for accommodation. There are another 150 beds in hotels and private homes for rural tourism in the surrounding villages. In Kiten a sanatorium for patients with obesity has been constructed and it is subordinated to the Ministry of Health. There are over 250 catering establishments that offer public catering and entertainment - family restaurants, cafes, refreshment and cocktail bars. The resorts Primorsko and Kiten offer also additional tourist services such as hunting tourism, excursions to Ropotamo natural reserve and Strandzha Park, visits to Pismenovo village and Yasna Polyana village, excursions to Istanbul (Turkey). Nine beaches (beach lines) are manages by concessionaires.

Bilateral and international cooperation
Primorsko Municipality has signed contracts and agreements for international cooperation with towns and municipalities from Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, the Hellenic Republic, Turkey, Slovakia, etc.
