Tsarevo Municipality is situated in the most distant southeastern part of Bulgaria and is at a distance of 60 km to the south of Bourgas on the international highway å-87, on the border with the Republic of Turkey. It occupies the Bulgarian part of the Seaside portion of Strandzha Mountain, which is divided along the Rezovska River valley by the state border between Bulgaria and Turkey. The low and oak-forest-covered slanting hills of Strandzha Mountain slope into the Black Sea and cut the coast into dozens of small bays and peninsulas. The mountain and the sea definitely play an important role in the development of this region. Beach lines: 19 of total area 349.2 sq. m, total length 9,184 m, average width 33.6 m. There are two ports in the Municipality - Tsarevo town and Ahtopol town. The total length of the roads network is 105 km, of which 38% are first-class roads. Digital telephone exchange is in place.
Economy and business
Tourism is the upstream industry for Tsarevo Municipality. Some of the larger companies shaping the economy of the Municipality are: Passat AD - production of sailing vessels and plastic items; State Forestry Board, Tsarevo and Kosti - wood logging; Strandzha Autotransport AD, Tsarevo - transport services; Tsarevo production cooperative, Ahtopol production cooperative, Tsarevo regional cooperative - trade. Successful privatization transactions: The following have been sold in the recent years: regulated plot on the town planning scheme, Tsarevo town - for a hotel complex; regulated plot on the town planning scheme, Lozenets village; farming land in Lozenets village; terrain for construction of Regional Department Store, Tsarevets town; regulated plot on the town planning scheme, Kosti village - the former kindergarten; students' hostel in Ahtopol town; regulated plot on the town planning scheme, Velika village; regulated plot on the town planning scheme, Fazanovo village. The total area of the Municipality is divided as follows: farming land - 108.8 sq. km, forest areas - 401.7 sq. km, population centers and urbanized zones - 3.9 sq. km, water areas - 2.8 sq. km, areas for extraction of minerals - 11.3 sq. km, transport and infrastructure areas - 1.8 sq. km

Natural sights and monuments of culture
The Seaside portion of Strandzha Mountain is relatively low - between 100 and 600 m. The oak trees that cover it are mingled with beech, hornbeam, walnut trees, poplar, willow, wild pair trees, and recently also with man-planted pine. Some Mediterranean and relict species also grow well in this part of the mountain, such as bay-tree, periwinkle (Vinca), Spurge Laurel, and others. There is a considerable game population in Strandzha. It includes all animal species found on the territory of Bulgaria. Strandzha Natural Park is of area 377.48 sq.km and includes the Silkosia and Tissovitsa reserves. Protected areas: The reserves Silistar - 6.988 sq.km and The Mouth of the Veleka River - 15.112 sq.km have been established with the purpose to preserve the typical landscape of the seaside zone, the rock formations and fiords, the specific xero-thermic transitional Mediterranean vegetation and abundant animal life. Natural sights: Popovi Skali - 0.308 sq.km along the course of the Trionska River; Piren and Mahartata cave. The following have been declared monuments of architecture: The ruins of Ourdovitsa and Ahtopolska Stena antique and medieval fortresses. Religious buildings - St. Virgin Mary's Assu church in Tsarevo town, St. St. Cyril and Methodius church in Kosti village; St. Panteleymon church in Bordilovo village. The Ahtopol wall and the Greek School - declared monuments of culture. The opportunities for cultural tourism and the other forms of tourism are favored by numerous festivals, which are held here traditionally, as well as competitions and local holidays and recreation of customs and rituals, namely: Traditional holidays of literature and arts for children and adolescents with Bulgarian and foreign participants; St. Constantine and Elena fire-dancer shows in June in Bulgari village; St. George in Lozenets village; St. Elena in Ahtopol town; St. Ilia in Kosti village and Velika village; St. Marina in Fazanovo village; St. Virgin Mary in Varvara village; St. Panteleymon - Brodilovo village; St. Petka in Sinemorets village; Festival of manna honey - in August; Week of the Sea; Eurofolk festival; Saedinenie Regatta in September; The Everest of the world of swimming, Tsarevo, Bulgaria - a world swimming marathon - 27 August 2005.
Environmental protection and tourism
Unique combination of sea, mountain and rivers with exotic vegetation and diversity of animal species exist. These conditions are a prerequisite for development of cognitive tourism, hunting tourism, yachting tourism, hobby tourism for watching flora and fauna, sports tourism and underwater fishing. The availability of rich cultural historical heritage determines the possibility for development of rural and cultural-cognitive tourism. Resort complexes: Bella Vista Beach Club complex, Sinemorets village; Domingo hotel complex, Sinemorets village; Summer-house complexes -vacation village, Lozenets village; Camping - Oasis, Arapya, Nestinarka, Delphin. The private sector prevails in the hotel and catering business. Hunting tourism: State Forestry Board, Tsarevo town and State Forestry Board, Kosti village.
Associations, memberships, twin-cities and partnerships
Tsarevo Municipality with the neighboring municipality of Malko Tarnovo comprises one of the regions for trans-border cooperation. Twinned cities: Pinar Hissar city, the Republic of Turkey; Meliki city, the Hellenic Republic, Volgast city, the Republic of Germany.
